Idea’s for thinking through the broader issue’s of how our lifestyles are impacting the planet.
- We highly recommend the Pope Francis’ recent encyclical entitled ‘Laudato Si‘. It is a profound, deeply theological and passionate challenge to respond to the crisis that faces us all. Speaking of Christians he says’ So what they all need is an “ecological conversion”, whereby the effects of their encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in their relationship with the world around them. Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue; it is not an optional or a secondary aspect of our Christian experience.”
- Dave Bookless’s “Planetwise- care to care for God’s world” is a great introduction for Christians. He writes: ‘I was in the act of throwing away my family’s rubbish while holidaying on a beautiful island when I heard God speak. I could easily have missed it, but an inner whisper asked, “How do you think I feel about what you are doing to my world?”‘
- For some great practical advice on how to love the planet and our global neighbours, I’d recommend Ruth Valerio’s book “‘L’ is for lifestyle: Christian living that doesn’t cost the earth”.
